Just a few weeks before it’s official release, the HTC One M8 has been leaked online. Although it’s official release date was scheduled for March 25, a high school student with by the name of Roshan Jamkatel uploaded a video online showing all the features of HTC’s newest release. The original video has been pulled offline, but not before everyone got a good look at the HTC One M8.
While most of the tech enthusiasts are pleased about receiving new information from the leaked video, the leaker could be facing serious legal action. In the video, the devices’ unique International Mobile Station Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers were visible and a representative from CEO was able to take note of them. In a twitter exchange between Jeff Gordon, HTC’s Senior Global Online Communications Manager, and Roshan Jamkatel, the person who shared the video leak on various social networks, Gordon warns Jamkatel that he will not be having a good week. Although the tweets have since been deleted, Gordon’s tweets read “@roshanjamkatel It’s not going to be a good week for you, my friend. ” followed by “@roshanjamkatel We have the IMEI and all other info. We’ll be in touch.” At this point in time it is unknown whether any concrete legal action has been taken again Jamkatel.
Hardware and Specs
The video showed details of M8 hardware such as its dual camera and a microSD slot as well as some appearance changes featuring a slimmer phone and larger screen. Its dual camera at the back is said to be an ultrapixel camera, which has a dual-flash and dual-shot mode allowing you to capture a video at the same time. The power button seems to have been moved to the right side from the left, and the headphone jack has been transferred to the bottom. More appearance changes include the same dual-speakers without the main buttons at the bottom and slightly rounded corners. Sources say the new smartphone will be offered in five colors namely, silver aluminum, dark metal, red, gold, and blue. Although it wasn’t extensively discussed in the video, the HTC One M8 is said to run an impressive 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. It will also run the latest version of Android KitKat, Sense UI, and is expected to have an improved battery life.
Some of the software specifications are just rumors, but everyone will find out soon enough when the smartphone is officially launched by HTC on March 25. The release is still highly anticipated seeing as the HTC One was named Best Smartphone of the Year in 2013 at the Mobile World Congress. Also in competition for that title were Apple’s iPhone 5S and Samsung’s Galaxy S3.
