There’s a big camp happening right outside Malaysia’s telephone companies!
Nope, this is not a big rally or a massive union but the large crowds gathering since 12:01am of October 31 are waiting to get their hands on the sleek and the latest iPhone 5s before they run out of stock since it went on sale in Malaysia. It turns out that Apple’s first champagne gold color is a personal favorite among many Malaysians.
The Celecom Blue Cube store located at the Sunway Pyramid had over 200 customers waiting line for the new iPhone 5s. There are even those who lined even before the outlet opened and accepted customers. Everyone wanted to pick-up the iPhone they wanted.
Leading the pack is network presentation editori Mohd Abdullah Mod Azam, a 26-year-old network presentation editor who waited in line since 8:45am. An iPhone avid user for the past two years, Mohd Abdullah even brought his pregnant wife to wait with him as they arrived first in the line.
But what happened when the store opened was a surprise for the couple as they were given a champagne gold iPhone 5s each by Celcom for free!
Second on the line was Ahmad Izzudin Borhanudin, 26 year old malaysian who wanted to have the champagne gold coloured iPhone 5s since the color is unique compared to many iPhone products.
The store’s other company outlet in SS2, Petaling Jaya, was crowded as well during its DiGi launch with people crowding the storefront starting late evening to wait for the midnight launch.
In this outlet, the early bird and first in line was 21-year-old designer Jason Ooi Seng Oon. Ooi who was an avid Blackberry user had a sudden change of heart as his friends started to convert to an iPhone from a blackberry. Ooi has been in line since 5:30pm.
Another local telco, Maxis Berhad also launched iPhone 5s in its store though it did not have a public launching and opted for a private event for Maxis One Club Customers.
If you are planning to get one yourself, check out the Telcos websites that shows various phone plans with various iPhone models and data subscription. Rates are available online as well.
The growing demand for the latest iPhone has been growing over time – especially the champagne gold variety – and rumors have it that Apple has reportedly been having trouble keeping up with production requirements.
