RON95 & diesel confirmed a price up, by 20 cent starting 3 August 2013. So the price of RON95 will be RM2.10 per litre and for diesel will be RM2.00 per litre.
However PM, Najib promised that a comprehensive “social safety net” and further fiscal measures would be introduced in the 2014 Budget.
“Currently, our subsidy system benefits everyone, including the higher income group and foreigners. Thus, we need to move to a more targeted subsidy system that caters to vulnerable groups,”
Reason given by the Malaysian government :
- government had subsidized 83 cents per liter for RON95
- government subsidized RM1 per litre for diesel
RON95 up 20 sen by 3 August
Najib said the increase in the price of fuel was not a political issue but rather about Malaysia’s economic status and survival.
