Breaking : Obesity rank Malaysia No.1 in ASEAN
Recent study and statistic in 2013 has shown Malaysia has the highest obesity rise in ASEAN (The Association of Southeast Asian Nations). Malaysia ranked number 6 out of 52 countries in Asia in obesity rate.
Malaysia Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said this is not a glorious title.
“We are outweighing all our ASEAN neighbours and are number six in the whole of Asia” said Datuk Liow.
According to statistics from the National Health and Morbidity Surveys, 15.1 per cent of Malaysians aged 18 and above were suffering from obesity.
More than 35 per cent are either obese or overweight with a body-mass index of more than 25.
A study by University Putra Malaysia found that women in Malaysia generally are more likely to become obese while male Malays and Indians also have higher cases of obesity as opposed to Chinese residents. State-wise, Sarawak has the highest rate of obesity, Sabah the lowest.

Many said the main cause of this problem is that mainly the food in Malaysia is oily and heavy in taste. Anyhow, we shouldn’t blame on foods. Actually we are the one who are responsible for our wellness.
In order to tackle this problem, we must rise and dedicate to live a healthy lifestyle. We should not consume too much of calories than the amount that we need to carry on the daily activities. Many gone to park to jog, but the sad thing is they burn way too little than they took, so diet is the key to avoid obesity.
