A student drown in today ‘ombak kuat’ incident when he was near the beach (Pantai Kerachut Teluk Bahang) in Penang around 2 pm.
The victim, Muaz Munawir, 16, said dragged by the waves while resting together with few of his friends after the a jungle crossing program.
Program director, Mohd Hafiz Abdul Hamid, said at that time the high waves suddenly came and attract him into the sea.
“He then disappeared from our view, after half an hour we found his body floating near the coast,” he said.
His body was sent to the Forensic Department, Hospital Balik Pulau for further investigation before being sent back to his hometown in Muar, Johor.

Director of Pusat Ramalan Cuaca Jabatan Meterologi, Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said it was the common phenomenon of the effect of the wind change from northeast monsoon to southwest monsoon that had begun since the 4 May past.
